What is your Professional Title?
Chairperson of Mosterdsaad. A Non-Profited Organization based in Klerksdorp
Where did you grow up?
Kempton Park
Tell us how you first got involved in charity.
I got involved in the church. I always helped people like my work colleagues.
What has surprised you most about working in this industry?
It surprises me that people who struggle still tell lies and steal – they take chances.
What do you find most challenging about your job?
Housing and unemployment in the community, as well as struggles with transport.
What’s the best and worst thing to happen since you started working in this trade
When I started Mosterdsaad in 2017, there was a woman whose circumstances were so dire that she lost everything. Her husband had passed, and she had to care for her two children. So she constructed a shack next to the railway line and picked up the food thrown away next to the railway line. When I visited her one day, she could only find cat and dog food to give to her children. Mosterdsaad helped her get accommodation and land for her and her kids and employment. She was so thankful for everything, and she still contributes to Mosterdsaad every month.
What’s your motto in life?
Faith, Hope, and Love
Tell us about someone who has influenced you the most?
Mosterdsaad’s kids are taken to Spur to celebrate their birthday. I took a boy there, and we told him he could have anything he likes – a hamburger or sparerib, anything he wants. He asked me if he could get some vegetables.
What might someone be surprised to know about you?
I can ride a horse. I used to swim Gala, and I was a coach. I am also a qualified chef.
If you weren’t doing what you are doing now, what would you be doing instead, or what would your life be like?
Peaceful and boring.
How would your best friend describe you?
“Maggie is a blessing- not only is she funny and smart, but she has a heart of gold. Maggie is always willing to help others, even to the extent that she would take the clothes off her own back for someone in need. She has an amazing laugh that would put you right at ease.” Friend
